Description:
Rebecca Gaghen is head of the Communication and Information Office of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris which acts as energy policy advisor to 28 industrialized nations. The IEA works to assist member countries in striking a balance between energy security, environmental protection and economic growth. Ms. Gaghen oversees IEA publications, press relations, web sites and the research library to ensure the main messages of IEA analysis are conveyed to member countries, key non-member energy producing and consuming countries (especially China, India, Russia and OPEC members) and other stakeholders around the world. Ms. Gaghen joined the Agency in 2001, initially working as Special Advisor to the IEA Executive Director.
From 1998-2001, Ms. Gaghen served as Deputy Chief of Staff for International Policy to U.S. Energy Secretary Bill Richardson. Prior to this appointment, she was a Foreign Service Officer, posted in Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and at the US Mission to the United Nations where she was Special Assistant to UN Permanent Representative Madeleine Albright. Ms. Gaghen has an M.A. from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a B.A. from Harvard/Radcliffe Colleges.
